OUR CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS ARE LISTED BELOW

Our Club is a very small part of Lions International, the largest service organisation in the world.

Terrigal Beach, with Surf Club on rightWe are Lions assisting the local community on the Central Coast of NSW which is almost 100Km north of Sydney CBD in the Gosford City Council area, and accessible via the F3 Freeway. Our club covers the Terrigal -Wamberal -North Avoca -Erina -and surrounding areas. In addition we also contribute to Lions Australia projects and Lions International projects.

Four popular beaches, North Avoca, Terrigal, Wamberal and Forresters form our eastern boundary. All are well known surfing locations.  Terrigal is also renowned for the Skillion Lookout right on the Pacific Ocean, the 5 star Crowne Plaza hotel and the town’s numerous restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and fashion shops. It is almost unique in Australia, but still easily accessible from both Sydney and Newcastle.

For 3 weeks in February 2008 Terrigal hosted the Laser World Sailing Championships in the sheltered Terrigal Haven. The usually perfect autumn weather that was expected did not arrive. Instead we had storms and winds making sailing far more difficult than would have normally been the case. However the event proved to be spectacular and beautiful to watch.

For a few years now locals were looking forward to the NSW Government funded sinking of a well known former Australian warship, HMAS Adelaide, off the South of  Terrigal  Beach headland. Finally a date for the sinking , 28th March 2010, was announced in December 2009.

However at the last minute a newly formed private Avoca Beach  group lodged a court appeal, which was upheld, to delay the event. Large amounts were spent by both the NSW Government and private companies and groups  preparing for the sinking in the weeks leading up to Saturday 28 March 2010  And hotels were fully booked. So it is expected that the costs involved by this delay will become  national news at a later date.

The organisers of the HMAS Adelaide plan claimed it would attract an influx of tourists keen to dive around the sunken vessel. It was expected that it would be a haven for fish and a boon for tourism in Terrigal and surrounding areas.

News on this matter on 25 June 2010 was that the “no ships action group’s ” application to delay the hearing of the sinking has been denied by the court.  The hearing to finally decide the matter went ahead on July 5-8 as scheduled. There has been a delay and the result will be posted here when available.

Just north of the Gosford City Council area is the Wyong Shire Council area and they also have many more surfing beaches and holiday spots.  The two areas form what is known as the “Central Coast” of NSW, located centrally between Sydney and Newcastle. The Entrance is a well known and favourite holiday place for many Sydneysiders. Wyong Council showed great foresight and planning skills when many years back they initiated major changes to The Entrance. Today it is a significant location on the NSW coast.

Terrigal-Wamberal Lions Club is actively involved in the local community.

On the first Sunday of every month we operate the well known Lions Car Boot Sale at Lions Park near Terrigal Lagoon. (click on Car Boot Sale link at  top left of this page)

Locals will also be aware of our annual Giant Christmas Trailer Raffle.

It consists of a brand new and registered car trailer containing a huge variety of extra prizes. There are so many items included that we have to use a cage around the trailer in order to display and contain all of the prizes. Towards Christmas the trailer raffle tickets are sold around our area including the Terrigal shops, Erina Fair, the largest shopping centre on the Central Coast, Franklins Erina Heights and IGA Erina.

Every year someone receives a phone call soon after 2PM on December 24 to let them know they have won a new trailer loaded with great things for all the family. First prize, including the trailer,  is worth  around $3,500. Each year we receive a lot of help at our various selling locations from all you generous central coast people.

Thank you to all who support this raffle, including the many ticket buyers here on holidays and their support is also appreciated. Every single ticket we sell goes towards helping those in need. Without your help Terrigal-Wamberal Lions would not be able to operate.

Another project we enjoy running is the annual sale of the famous high quality Lions Christmas cakes. Our Club also supplies Lions Mints to some retailers who kindly help us to raise funds for charity.

We don’t seek cash donations however if you would like to help we will be most grateful.  All of the internal operations of our Lions Club including dinner meetings are fully paid for by our members. We operate 2 separate bank accounts. One is for fund raising. The other is for collecting fees from our own members to cover annual club fees, club dinners and outings. All of our projects’ profits and all donations we receive, without any exceptions,  are given to or spent on deserving causes. We try as hard as we can to give top priority to local charities and deserving causes.

Our postal address is PO Box 126 Terrigal NSW 2260.  If you’d like to donate to our club we thank you in advance. If you do send us a donation we will mail an official receipt to you.  Donations  mailed to us are very rare indeed so they will always be appreciated. Our books are fully audited. Your privacy will be respected. Your details will not be provided to anyone or added to any database or mailing list. If you do make a donation  to our club please include a note to mention that you  saw this on our website. It really will help us to continue helping those who are genuine and in need.

We are always keen to talk to potential new members and welcome any questions you may have about our club. Please go to the link  Like to join us? at top left.
